Pull-Out Under Stairs Storage
Bespoke Storage Designed to Make the Most of Your Staircase
The space beneath a staircase is often one of the most underused areas in a home.
At Seagull Bespoke Interiors, we design and build bespoke pull-out storage systems that transform this awkward space into practical, accessible storage. Instead of difficult-to-reach cupboards or wasted voids, our solutions allow the entire depth of the space to be used efficiently.
Each system is designed specifically for the staircase and built in our workshop before being installed with the same care and attention to detail that goes into making it.
Why Choose Us for Under Stairs Storage
A Practical Solution Designed Around Your Space.
Unlike off-the-shelf storage solutions, bespoke under-stairs cabinetry allows the space to be used properly.
Because every staircase is different, we design each project specifically around the available space and what the client wants to store.
-
Traditional cupboards under the stairs often waste the deeper parts of the void because they are difficult to reach.
Pull-out systems solve this problem by allowing the entire storage unit to slide forward, giving easy access to everything inside.
-
Every system is built to the exact dimensions of the space beneath your stairs.
This allows us to work around:
sloping ceilings
structural supports
awkward corners
irregular wall lines
The result is storage that uses the available space efficiently while remaining visually clean and well integrated into the hallway.
-
The same person who designs the project is also responsible for building and installing it.
This means nothing is passed between different teams, and all the small details that make fitted furniture work properly are handled carefully from start to finish.
“We got in touch with Joe as we needed someone to design and build some understairs storage for us. From the start Joe was a pleasure to deal with, prompt to reply to our enquiry and keen to understand our needs. Joe came up with helpful suggestions and detailed plans to make sure we were happy with the final design.
The installation was completed to a high standard with minimal fuss and we would not hesitate to use Joe again or to recommend him to others.”
“Joe is very professional, dedicated and experienced at his job. From first contact he was responsive, polite and helpful. We are very pleased with our new living room shelf and shoe cabinet. He worked neatly and put effort into attention to detail.”
Featured Project:
Pull Out Under Stairs Storage - Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent
The Tunbridge Wells Project, 2026
Completed in February 2026, this project transformed a poorly used space beneath a staircase into practical hallway storage.
The installation features two large pull-out units, designed to make the full depth of the staircase void accessible. The fronts are finished in oak veneer to match the existing oak staircase, and sprayed in a clear lacquer to maintain the natural character of the timber.
Inside, the cabinetry is constructed from lightweight poplar plywood, finished in white. Using a lighter material internally reduces the overall weight of the units, allowing more capacity for storing everyday items while ensuring the pull-out mechanism operates smoothly.
The smaller pull-out unit provides practical storage for shoes, while the larger unit incorporates integrated coat hooks, creating two dedicated cubbies so the family’s children each have their own space for coats, bags and footwear.
The result is a discreet and highly functional storage solution that integrates neatly with the existing hallway joinery while making full use of previously wasted space.
Materials & Build Quality
Built to Last.
Under-stairs storage experiences frequent use, so durability is important.
Our cabinetry is built using furniture-grade materials and reliable hardware designed for long-term performance.
Typical construction includes:
strong cabinet-grade boards or plywood carcasses
heavy-duty concealed runners designed to carry significant weight, normally 70kg
soft-close mechanisms for smooth operation
durable painted or laminate finishes
This ensures the storage feels solid and reliable in everyday use.
Workshop and Craftsmanship
Designed Carefully Before Being Built.
Every project begins with a detailed design phase.
Before the cabinetry is built, we create a precise 3D model of the entire installation at millimetre accuracy. This allows us to carefully plan how the pull-out units will move within the staircase void and ensure there are no clearance issues.
Resolving these details in advance ensures the finished installation operates smoothly and fits the space precisely.
The cabinetry is then built in our workshop before being installed on site.
